WHY BLUEBIRD MASSAGE

We address the whole person. Bluebird Massage Therapy utilizes a three cord approach via massage, craniosacral therapy, and manual lymph drainage of the brain, head, and neck. Utilizing this approach, we address the muscular system, the limbic system, the central nervous system, the cerebrospinal system, the lymphatic system, the endocrine system, the circulatory system, and the digestive system.

Massage is helpful in many ways for human beings who have experienced trauma or are experiencing trauma. It helps to bring the limbic system (the part of our nervous system responsible for our fight/flight/freeze reaction) back from an overreactive state where one feels threatened by normal occurrences to a healthy state where one is able to assess threats in a healthy manner. Massage does this especially well as an adjunct to cognitive behavioral therapy and other forms of psychotherapy and somatic therapy.

Massage enables the healing of the limbic system through several means:

It releases the flow of oxytocin (known as "the hug hormone") as well as endorphins.

It decreases cortisol levels, the hormone excreted when our limbic system is activated.

It promotes sleep.

It projects to the limbic cortex, stimulating specific brain circuits involved in pleasure and reward.

Through providing a safe space: acceptance and unconditional positive regard, an unwavering commitment to "do no harm", and the power of human presence and touch in a world seen as ultimately harmful and painful, massage can give trauma victims the experiential knowledge the world can hold joyful, healing, and meaningful experiences.

Craniosacral Therapy provides the client with a more free-flowing cerebrospinal system as well as better alignment of the cranial bones.

Manual Lymph Drainage of the Head, Neck, and Brain removes inflammation from the brain which is helpful for anyone experiencing mental health difficulties.

Bluebird exists to help individuals, families, and communities thrive by providing safe, respectful, affective and healing human touch for those most in need.
